We have all seen the films, the endless sand dunes with the wind whistling around whipping up the sand creating a hazy blur all around. The reality though is somewhat different. The idea of camel or elephant trekking is fantastic. What a great way to see the countryside of a new country. Whether that is India, the UAE or somewhere else riding one of the local animals is just a fantastic idea. These animals can be ridden in a whole variety of different countries from around the Gulf to South East Asia where elephant trekking is widely available.
It should be remembered though that you are interacting with an animal. They are of course well trained and used to human contact however there is always that air of unpredictability hence why you need elephant or camel trekking insurance. There is no guarantee that something there will be no danger. The animal may get suddenly spooked and then you could get thrown. Even when the animal is behaving correctly the ride can be jumpy and you often bounce around a lot. This could lead you to fall off and again lead to injury. Potential injuries can range from bruises, sprains, broken limbs or worse if you are travelling at speed. Camels can run incredibly quickly and can be unpredictable.
It is important that you use fully accredited companies and take out the right insurance as injuries may prove to be expensive. Although not particularly dangerous there is an element of risk and so consequently X1 Sports insurance has graded our camel or elephant trekking insurance as a Grade 2 risk sport.
