Horse jumping is an added activity that needs to be insured against separately to normal horse riding. Horse jumping can be very hazardous and therefore injury and accident needs to be against. Horse Jumping is officially much more dangerous than flat racing or riding as more injuries are reported that are linked to it than the other pursuits.
Injuries caused from horse jumping can range from simple cuts and bruises to very severe trauma. However more often that not they will require hospital treatment due to the fact that they arise from the speed of the horse, the height of the jumps as well as tricky and difficult terrain. Over a period of time reports of riders having inflammation of tendons and muscles have occurred as well as more typical injuries from falls such as sprains, strains and breakages. In more severe cases, unfortunately falling off the horse can lead to spinal damage, vertebrae injuries and pelvic and lumber fractures. All of these are very costly and can lead to long hospital stays so it is imperative that the right insurance is taken out for the activity holiday. It is always recommended that you always wear the appropriate protective clothing.
The activity insurance also covers you for injuries caused by animal behaviour too such as bites and kicks. Horses can be very unpredictable especially if they are unaccustomed to you and other people. Horse riding and jumping is a great sport and activity as it can be fast and energetic however it is dangerous and consequently we have rated it as a Grade 4 Activity.
