Yachting (racing / crewing) - outside territorial waters Insurance

Everyone can picture the scene. Calm water an eight berth yacht sailing with your friends, sun bathing and relaxing on deck. What could be better! However that is not the whole story. If you are planning on hopping from island to island, relaxing and soaking up the sun you will still need to be proficient in how to actually sail a boat. You will need to have a good working understanding and knowledge of meteorology, navigation and the general mechanical and electrical workings of a boat. You will need to be able to plan your trip, be self sufficient and highly skilled in sailing.

If you decide to go further a field and outside territorial waters then you really need to have adequate travel insurance because as you can imagine this type of sailing can be incredibly risky because you are at the mercy of the elements. Weather can change abruptly, sea conditions can go from glorious to desperate in the blink of an eye. These changes can lead to injury through general accidents with the equipment, slipping on a wet surface or colliding with boom for example when gybing. If you are unfortunate to have an accident while out at sea then rescue can be incredibly expensive, hospital treatment can likewise be pricey too that is why it is imperative to get the right level activity insurance.

X1 Sports has graded yachting outside territorial waters a level 3 risk sport because of the potential dangers and risks involved with participating. You must be a passenger or part of the crew and not captaining the boat. It is incredibly rewarding as a sport and enables you to get to some inaccessible places as well as allowing you to compete in some fantastic races however you do need the right insurance protection.
